Kick
Fire a gun. Feel it push
back against your shoulder,
braced and erect. Hear the crack
ricochet off the hilltops
encircling you. See the snake
spasm in its death dance
despite the strike of a bullet
to the head. Taste the smoke
wafting from the barrel, seeping
into the heavy air like a poison.
