"The Daisies Have Returned" by Risa Denenberg
The Daisies Have Returned
It’s happening again. Not as metaphor. More like natural science: first daffodils, then irises and tulips, the magnificent orange poppies, and now this. I wonder if person-blossoms will return in time. Sprout new seed-legs from subterranean roots? Or rise like helium balloons released at a child’s birthday party? I’ve cried every day this month. Forget barefoot summers, June weddings, senior prom. See how blueness performs itself in sky. It’s now, and daisies are exploding everywhere.
