"Selective Ignorance" by Stephanie Mhango
Selective Ignorance
As a child I used to run around shadows
Always ignoring the screaming around me,
And echoing the laughter
Now all I can see are drilled moons
And broken teeth
I wake up with swollen eyes
And the sound of people thrown on top of each other
Like drums stuck in my head.
